Immigration activists in Los Angeles planned a rally to pressure lawmakers to create legislation protecting undocumented children from deportation. The rally was organized by the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights L.A. (CHIRLA) as part of a larger effort to pressure lawmakers to pass legislation that allows Dreamers to stay in the country. CHIRLA’s spokesman, Jorge-Mario Cabrera, said he cannot watch the aspirations of children be corrupted by Congress’ political “games,” expressing a common pro-DACA and pro-birthright citizenship reverence and emphasis of the purity and preciousness of the child, which is contrasted with the dark murkiness of the politicized adult world (SFGate)
