Whittier College
Last October at Whittier College, pro-Trump hecklers disrupted what was meant to be a question-and-answer session with California’s Attorney General, Xavier Becerra, who has filed a lawsuit against the Trump Administration over DACA (The Fire). The protest, which was captured by “We the People Rising,” involved a series of anti-immigration slogans– “America First,” “Obey the Law,” “Build the Wall,” etc.– which made the conversation between the audience and the elected official impossible (The Fire) Slogans like these has led to a dangerous conflation of anti-immigration sentiment, as is clearly reflected on Twitter. Tweets tagged with #anchor babies were frequently accompanied by hashtags covering a wide range of immigration debates, the most common being #EndDaca, #BuildTheWall, #Trump, and #ChainMigration (Twitter).
